The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our world as we know it. We are all doing our normal routine a little differently than we used to. If you are a business owner---customers are expecting a whole new level of clean. Whether you are a restaurant owner, salon owner or a custodian at a school---clean needs to be at an all-time high and SERVPRO of Mercer County, with help from the CDC guidelines is here to give you some tips on keeping your commercial space as clean and safe as possible from COVID. Here’s what you can do.
Clean: Always wear gloves when you are cleaning and disinfecting, clean surfaces first with soap and water and then use a disinfectant, practice routine cleaning of surfaces that are touched regularly, objects that are touched by many hands should be cleaned and disinfected before each use. Such as: shopping carts and sale keypads.
Disinfect: Disinfect with a proper cleaner. The CDC recommends these products to help the spread of germs caused by the SARS-COV-2 virus. The CDC also recommends that you should read and follow the directions on the label to ensure safe and effective use.
- Wear skin protection and consider eye protection for potential splash hazards
- Ensure adequate ventilation
- Use no more than the amount recommended on the label
- Use water at room temperature for dilution (unless stated otherwise on the label)
- Avoid mixing chemical products
- Label diluted cleaning solutions
- Store and use chemicals out of the reach of children and pets
You should never eat, drink, breathe or inject these products into your body or apply directly to your skin as they can cause serious harm. Do not wipe or bathe pets with these products or any other products that are not approved for animal use.
Soft Surfaces: Make sure you are vacuuming regularly. Floors, rugs, and drapes can be cleaned using soap and water, or with appropriate cleaners. Lauder items, as necessary. Use the warmest water setting as possible and thoroughly dry items.
Electronics: Put a wipeable protector on the screens, so they may be wiped. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines when wiping an electronic. If there are no included guidelines, wipe with a spray that contains at least 70% alcohol.
Laundry: Wash items per instructions on the label with warmest water possible and ensure they are dried completely, wear gloves dealing with items from people who are sick, dirty laundry from a sick person can be combined with other people’s items. Clean hampers and clothes baskets accordingly. Wash your hands immediately after glove removal.
Cleaning or Disinfecting Your Building if Someone is Sick: Close off areas used by the person who was affected, you may not need to close your doors---just the areas that were involved. Open all windows and doors to create circulation, wait 24 hours before you clean or disinfect---if you cannot wait this long, wait as long as possible. Clean all the areas used by the person, including bathrooms, copiers, keyboards, sales pads…etc. Vacuum the space WHEN UNOCCUPIED, with a vacuum that has a HEPA filter. Turn off HVAC units to avoid contamination of the unit, turn off in-room fans to ensure particles will not escape from the facility. Once disinfected---the area can be re-opened and other workers can return to work.
