It's Water Season in New Castle, PA

April showers, May flowers, leaky roofs, and flooded basements....
'Tis the season for water damage!
While we are supposed to be well into spring weather by now, Mother Nature did not seem to get that memo here in Western PA.
Normally at this time of year, we would mainly be talking about rain showers and the resulting damage to your home that excess water usually brings with it. This year, instead of April showers, it seems as though someone has ordered a variety pack of temperatures and precipitation types that has left us wondering what season we will be experiencing on any given day. Snow and wintry mixes quickly turn into ice and freezing rain, and before we know it, everything has melted and the sun has come out....that is, until the next day, when the snow and wind come back for another round, and we are back where we started.
As bizarre as these fluctuating weather patterns seem in comparison to what we are used to, the bottom line is that this kind of weather will still lead to the same results that we see each spring; water damage.
Each time the temperatures rapidly rise, the snow begins to melt and leaves water looking for a place to settle. The bad news is that, with fluctuating temperatures, the ground rarely has time to soften, nor the water time to dry before the colder temperatures return again.
It is nearly impossible to keep up with the rates of melting, which means that there will likely be water accumulating around the foundation of your home or in other areas that you do not even notice. That is, until you find that it has made its way inside your home and caused damage.
Pay attention to weather patterns and take note of places where water damage could occur.
If you do find yourself with water damage on your property, big or small, call SERVPRO of Mercer and Lawrence Counties and we will do our best to make it "Like it never even happened."
